JESS Extensions* are real Euro Indian remis cuticle hair. Therefore it is recommended to get hair trims every 6 weeks for a dry dusting, needs more oil, brushed safely more often and properly cared for in recreational activities or sleeping.

Let's check out these tips together. Also, check out our E-Guide in our store or ask for a paper back upon your next visit to the salon.

Why Are My Hair Extensions Dry And Frizzy?

Reason 1: Lack Of Natural Oils

The root cause of dry hair is the lack of a natural oil called sebum. Our natural hair produces sebum. Sebum contains many substances that help the hair lock in moisture. It is our hair that has a soft touch. Hair extensions do not automatically produce this sebum. After a period of wearing and washing, the hair extensions can become dry and tangled. Blond hair should stay clear of Moroccan oil for it is yellowy in nature and can warm up cool blonds.

Reason 2: Excessive Use Of Heating Tools

Heating tools such as hair dryers, curling irons, and curling irons can cause hair extensions to dry quickly. These products can be used properly. Excessive use will damage the texture of the hair extension, making it dry and fragile. We recommend the Daviness or Redken heat protectant which is light and lasts a while for re-styling. Please add to hair before drying or right before the use of a heat tool.

Reason 3: Over-Processing

Many people are dissatisfied with hair extensions. Please be sure to have a trained Master stylist color and install them for you.

Reason 4: Exposure To The Sun

Summer is not friendly to hair extensions. High temperatures can make hair extensions dry. You may like to do sports, walk a lot or go boating in the summer, which will inevitably expose your hair extension to the sun. Excessive exposure to the sun is another major cause of your hair extension drying out. It is wise to apply a continuing cream, tie hair in a high bun, wear a hat when on a boat, apply a lot of oil and brush very often( specially when boating). DO NOT, let wind blow extensions! It will be very hard to brush out. If this happens, you might think you have bad extensions. This is untrue. Hair extensions simply gets more tangled no matter the brand. Boat with caution.

Reason 5: Exposure To Chlorine

Swimming is a sport that many people like, but isn't recommended with hair extensions. The water in the pool contains chlorine, a chemical that is not good for our hair extensions and can make our hair dry and discolored. If you must, please douse in conditioner and wear a swim cap.

8 Easy Steps To Fix Your Hair Extensions

Step 1: Use A Sulfate-Free Shampoo

Hair extensions tend to dry out due to the lack of natural oils. Shampoo becomes very important, and it is generally recommended to wash it at least once or twice a week because it keeps the hair extension clean without drying it. Add mild shampoo in cold water and wash your hair carefully. If you do a lot of sweating, apply lightly at roots and gentle let soap run down. Do no emulsify extensions. All brands of extensions have a silicone coating and with time goes away with washes and more oil and creams will need to be applied.

Step 2: Applying Conditioner

Rinse thoroughly with warm water, squeeze excess water, and use a moisturizing conditioner. Apply conditioner to the hair extension to make sure it penetrates each hair tress, and then use a wide-tooth comb to distribute it evenly throughout the hair extension.

Step 3: Dry Naturally And Avoid Hot Tools

Avoid using any form of heat to dry your hair after shampooing. Heat can dry hair and shorten the life of the hair extension. Let the hair dry naturally, pat it dry with a towel and do not rub it. If you are in a hurry, set the hair dryer to the minimum heat or apply a heat protectant to the hair extension to protect your hair extension. Use a, "Wet", or ,"Framar", brand brush recommended by stylist.

Step 4: Brush Hair Extensions Multiple Times a Day

Use an extended brush to comb your hair and brush at least twice a day. Brushing your hair regularly keeps your hair in good condition and prevents it from matting and tangling. Be gentle and patient when brushing hair extensions to avoid hair extensions. Start combing from the end of the hair extension and slowly upwards to the root. When you encounter a tangled hair bundle, take it out individually, untie the tangles with your fingers, and then continue combing the hair with a comb until it is completely supple.

Be sure to finger through root area to make sure hair is not tangled there!

Step 5: Deep Moisturizing

Applying a leave-in conditioner after washing your hair is an important step in keeping your hair soft. Leave-in conditioner injects important nutrients into the hair, leaving your hair soft and silky. After applying the leave-in conditioner on the hair extension, massage gently with your fingers until the hair extension is completely absorbed. Be sure to avoid putting the deep conditioner on the spot where the extension attaches to your hair, as it can loosen the bond. In order to prevent hair extensions from drying out, always use leave-in conditioner. But don't use too much as it will make the hair greasy.

Step 6: Use Nourishing Oils On The Hair Extensions

Massage hair oil into hair extensions and comb through. Put on a shower cap to let the oil absorb into your hair and hair extensions. Also, make sure to avoid putting oil directly on the bonded part between hair and hair extensions. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

Step 7: Sleep On A Satin Scarf or Pillow Case

Do not sleep when the hair extension is wet. This will tangle the hair extensions and make for some awful hair kinks in the morning. Wrap your hair extension with a soft satin scarf before going to bed to protect your hair extension. Place hair in a loose side down braid with a cute scrunchie.

Step 8: Come in every 6-8 weeks.

We will update a few colors pieces, extensions, style and freshen it all up. We will take out tangles or give any tips we think you may find useful to maintain hair and keep them healthy and smooth longer.

Thank you!
